Following the success of our stall at Tesco in February, we were invited by the founder of AK Bollywood Dance to attend a Bollywood theatrical dance show they organised in April. Impressed by our stall and approach, as well as their strong belief in Organ Donation, they felt our presence at their event was somewhat vital.
The show was in aid of KIDS Charity. KIDS is a leading disabled children’s charity that has been in existence for over 40 years working to enable disabled children and young people and their families to enjoy their lives.
The venue was filling up with people before the doors were even open. The show was a sell out with over 450 tickets sold, with another 100+ people on a waiting list. The show was phenomenal; with spectacular Bollywood dance performances, sensational singing acts as well as a catwalk, break dancer, belly dancer, beat boxer and dhol players. The show told the story of each star sign (raashee) and the characteristics of each one, with each performance resembling the characteristics of the corresponding sign.
As the show came to an intermission, our stall was buzzing with interest. The crowd were interested and willing to sign up onto the NHS Organ Donor Register. Families, couples, individuals, were all signing up! The event proved to be a success! The crowd was mainly Asian/Indian and given the lack of donors in this community, we were very happy with the response we got.
The show resumed with more acts and performances, and everyone had a fantastic time. We would like to thank AK Bollywood Dance for giving us this valuable opportunity; we have built a great relationship with the AK Bollywood Dance team and we hope to work with them again in the near future. We also made some excellent connections through the day and hope it leads us to more great opportunities to raise awareness of organ donation in the community.
